Berta Bouzy de Bourlon has played a role in the past of
Mont-Ferrant that goes beyond the limits of strictly wine-making
history. And not because she was, according to some of those
who knew her, an excellent cook (like a live-in mère ), but because
the historical circumstances made her into a “mother
courage”. You can feel how notes of fresh fruit fuse with aromatic
herbs, which balance out and provide the subtleties to a round, yet
smooth taste. This cava enjoys a pleasant fullness thanks to its
moderate maturity and contained acidity. Chardonnay has been aged
for at least three months in French oak, which gives this cava its
intense color as well as subtle vanilla tones.
Mont Ferrant is the oldest cava producer in Spain. Over 150
years dedicated to the elaboration of quality sparkling wines,
strictly adhering to traditional methods, and resulting in wines of
breath-taking personality, marked by strong acidity, an exceptional
capability for laying down, and a character that is hard to
Mont-Ferrant was founded in 1865 by Agustí Vilaret, who, having
made his fortune in South America returned to Catalunya full of
grand designs and ideas for ambitious projects. Purchasing Mas
Ferrant with the intention of producing champagne, he set about
planting the vines, building a new cellar, and acquiring the
necessary skills to create the first Mont-Ferrant.
Since those trying times, when not even the second fermentation
within the bottle could be completely guaranteed, up until today,
the story of Mont-Ferrant has been one that celebrates perseverance
in the quest for perfection.
Today we are proud to work hard to create the great wines that
Agustí dreamed of making, all those years ago.
